On the 13th of November, 2014 Startup Weekend Khartoum opened its doors for the first time in Khartoum (Capital City of Sudan). 100 participants were selected from among the hundreds of applicants to enter SWKH after many stages of elimination. On the first day of SWKH around 40 ideas were pitched, but only around 22 ideas succeeded to enter the competition at the end of the night and to form teams around.
On the second and final days teams were working so hard to get their MVP and business models ready with the mentors help. The energy and competition on those days specifically were high on many levels; between participants of SWKH and on a wider level between Khartoum and all the cities that had been running Startup Weekends at the same time. And getting ranked as the 3rd best SW in the area of Social Media for quiet sometime ignited SWKH skies with excitement since it was our first time ever to organize a SW. On the last day the doors were open again to the audience.
The show contained several sections starting with a motivational speech followed by the final presentations, coffee breaks in between and an entertaining Rap song which its subject is SWKH was written and performed by the facilitator and one of the mentors. Watching the final presentations was very pleasant to everyone specially those who got to see the first day pitching, because of the fair improvements that were put onto the selected ideas despite all the limitations; time and technology due to the sanctions enforced to Sudan.
